Madonna placed on 'ventilator' in ICU as daughter Lourdes by her side

Madonna has been supported by her daughter Lourdes after she contracted a "serious bacterial infection" preventing the singer to carry on with her world tour.

The Queen of Pop is said to have developed a nasty bacterial infection just days ago with her requiring an urgent stay in an intensive care unit.

Not only was the star admitted to ICU - she was also placed on a ventilator and was "intubated", according to the Mirror.

The 64-year-old's health scare and tour cancellation were shared by her manager Guy O'Seary on social media, leaving fans devastated and incredibly worried for the star.

Her daughter Lourdes Leon remained by the singer's side throughout the ordeal while her mother was "intubated" for at least one night before having the tube removed.

Lourdes Maria "Lola" Ciccone Leon is an American fashion model, dancer and singer. The 26-year-old star is the daughter of Madonna and Carlos Leon.

Since August 2022, Lourdes has followed in her mother's footsteps releasing her own music under the moniker Lolahol.

According to reports, the 'Vogue' singer is now alert and recovering, with Page Six being told that she is "out of ICU", her manager explained in his post that she "is still under medical care" with "a full recovery expected".

Intubation is a process where a tube is inserted through a person's mouth or nose, with it then going down to their trachea (which is also known as the airway or windpipe).

The tube then keeps the airway open so that oxygen can be administered.

Madonna announced her world tour earlier this year, with the Celebration tour now being postponed until further notice.

In the statement released by her manager, it stated: "At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.

"We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

The Celebration tour was due to commence next month, with a whopping 84 dates scheduled around the globe until January 2024.

Madonna was meant to be taking to the stage on July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but now there will be a new start date issued when the singer has recovered - although it is not currently known when this will be.
