A sharp intake of breath could be felt amongst an audience gathered at Central Saint Martins college yesterday, ready to watch the BA Fashion Class of 2022’s graduate collections.
Heads turned and phones flew out as Madonna made her way alongside the catwalk, and took her seat on the F’row alongside friend and fellow singer FKA Twigs. After diving in for a kiss, Madonna took to holding a stereo style black bag over her face, shielding from a keen Getty photographer. Twigs ushered him away, moments before music blasted and 151 designers showed three designs each.
The Vogue singer had committed to gothic glam façade, wearing a studded leather Moschino biker jacket paired with chunky patent platform boots, fingerless gloves, and stacks of diamond chains and crucifix necklaces. Her face was taught, partially hidden by a pair of wraparound black sunglasses, and framed with two blonde plaits and diamante hair clips.
As a stream of the graduate’s otherworldly concepts came down a two-tiered scaffolding runway to songs like Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ (regrettably, no Madge was played), it was alcohol that managed to catch Madonna’s eye.
“Is that wine,” she could be seen asking her assistant as a khaki green, sculptural top by designer Oli Clarke walked past. It was complete with two huge glass decanters of red liquid sloshing on each shoulder.
Her attention was held again when one model strutted down holding a bottle of prosecco – so much so she lifted her blackout shades for a closer look.
After a show that really had a bit of everything on the fashion front – from clear baby bumps with fake foetuses inside, walking QR code boxes, and dandelion dresses – the two songstresses made a swfit exit.
The show had clearly tempted the pair for a tipple. Twigs and Madonna were next seen leaving Mayfair member’s club Oswald’s, which specialises in wine, later that night.
