Madhya Pradesh: Reeling under losses, coaching centres re-open well before schools

BHOPAL: Although schools re-opened with full strength last week in Madhya Pradesh, coaching classes have gone to normal much before. Even after several coaching classes increased their fees, students have joined it in large number and attending them.

After schools, coaching class has been demanding permission to open their centres citing huge losses. Owners claimed that they incurred around Rs 15 crore loss in Bhopal alone and about Rs 500 crore across the state owing to the lockdowns.

Around 300 coaching institutes in Bhopal were closed for past several months before they opened after Covid restrictions lifted by the state government earlier this year. The situation was such that several coaching institutes were on the verge of closure, owners said. There are over 200 big coaching institutes in MP Nagar and about 100 small centres across Bhopal.

After they have been opened up with full strength, students have started attending classes in large number even well before the opening of school classes in the state capital.

Students said that opening of coaching centres in Bhopal was a big relief for them. “I had joined coaching classes immediately after they were allowed to open as I am preparing for JEE. It was indeed a need to join classes as my preparation was not complete without it,” said Samarth Sharma, an IIT aspirant.

Even coaching owners said that opening of their classes was helping students in large numbers. “As schools were closed to past two years and this year when they were opened at the end of the academic session students could not complete their preparation for competitive exams like JEE and NEET. Coaching classes made a big difference in their preparations. As classes were allowed to run students were able to complete their preparation in a better way,” said a coaching class owner.
