Madeleine West has just welcomed baby number seven, and her fans couldn’t be more thrilled. The former Neighbours star, 45, first revealed her surprise pregnancy earlier this year in a refreshingly honest Instagram post, where she thought she was entering perimenopause—turns out it was something quite different.
“WHOOPS! Thought it was perimenopause. I thought WRONG!” she joked online back in January, adding that it wasn’t due to too much Christmas pudding either. “And I couldn’t be happier,” she wrote, even if she’s not totally sold on the “Geriatric mum” label, reported Metro.co.uk.
The Aussie actress affectionately dubbed the new arrival #007, and admitted she was rewinding life a bit to grow what she called a “little surprise package.” She also opened up about how little is said about becoming a parent later in life and encouraged others in similar situations to reach out.
“If you’re expecting later than expected, and tackling early parenthood in your 40s or 50s, I’d LOVE to hear your stories,” she said. “How the heck do you get all the baby stuff together again after you’ve given it all away? There’s a terrifying new world of contraptions out there and I don’t know where to start!! HELP!!!”
Madeleine already has six children with her ex, Melbourne restaurateur Shannon Bennett. The pair were together for 13 years before calling it quits in 2018. Since 2020, she’s been in a relationship with environmentalist Maximo Bottaro.
Just yesterday, she shared a close-up snap of her newborn on Instagram with the caption: “Earthside at last… and utterly perfect.” Her Neighbours co-stars were quick to shower her with love. Matt Wilson commented, “Woah! Congratulations,” while Kym Valentine and April-Rose Pengilly also jumped in to send their best wishes.
Madeleine first made waves on Neighbours playing Dee Bliss from 2000 to 2003, whose character tragically died on her wedding day. In a wild twist, she later returned to the soap as Dee’s scheming twin sister Andrea, who managed to con poor Toadie out of $100k and even had a baby with him, while his wife watched the whole thing unfold over video call.
Eventually, the real Dee resurfaced, having spent years in witness protection, and Andrea ended up behind bars. Madeleine played both roles, switching costumes to help viewers keep track.
More recently, she popped up on Hard Quiz and took on the role of Kath Rickards in the sports drama Playing for Keeps. Now, though, her attention is clearly back on nappies, bottles, and all the baby bits she once thought were long behind her.
