Made.com customers given final delivery deadline - or items may never arrive

Furniture retailer Made.com announced on Wednesday, November 9, that it had entered administration after failing to secure a rescue deal.

Now, administrators at PricewaterhouseCoopers ( PwC ) say customers who haven’t received any pending orders by November 25 are not likely to receive them at all, the BBC has reported.

Those still awaiting a delivery after this date will have to submit a claim and try to get their money back.

PwC said around 4,500 UK and European orders were already in transit, but admitted that a "large proportion" would not reach customers at all as they were still being produced.

The company said orders that are already with delivery companies will be with customers by November 25.

But there are roughly 12,000 orders that are unlikely to be fulfilled or even refunded by Made.com.

Customers who are left empty handed will instead have to make a Section 75 claim with their banks, but can only do so if they spent more than £100 using their credit card.

Alternatively, those who spent less than £100 and used a debit or credit card to pay for their items can make a chargeback claim.

While a refund isn’t guaranteed this way, customers could try writing to PwC explaining what they’re owed.

Submitting a claim directly through the administrators means you'll join a list of people the company owes money to, but customers usually don't take priority in the process, so a refund is still not guaranteed.

A PWC spokesperson told the BBC that you should have received an email with details on how to submit a claim if you have an unfulfilled order.

"We recognise the uncertainty and frustration that some customers will be experiencing with regards to their orders," the spokesman added.

Made.com chair Susanne Given said: "Having run an extensive process to secure the future of the business, we are deeply disappointed that we have reached this point and how it will affect all our stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders.

"We appreciate and deeply regret the frustration that MDL [Made.com Design Ltd] going into administration will have caused for everyone."

"I want to sincerely thank all our employees, customers, suppliers and partners for your support throughout the past 12 years, and especially during this difficult time where we have tried so hard to find a workable solution for the company and all its stakeholders."
