Terrifying footage show youngsters 'tombstoning' at a notorious quarry where three people have been killed in recent years.
People living near Prestonhill Quarry in Fife, which has been dubbed 'death trap quarry', have described their actions as 'utter madness' as they're seen plummeting from the top to the water below.
Video posted online shows teenagers with BBQs and booze gathering at the quarry with cars parked nearby, the Daily Record reports.
In one terrifying moment two young men can be seen jumping from the top of the quarry rock face and hitting the water at terrifying speed.
The quarry has claimed the lives of three people in recent years.
Cameron Lancaster, 18, died while taking part in a charity Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014. 18-year-old John McKay in 2015 and Kelda Henderson, 36, who did not resurface from the water in 2017.
Campaign Action for Preston Hill was launched by relatives of the victims, including Cameron's mum Gillian Barclay, pleaded for the site to be drained and filled.
A developer has been sought to build homes on the site, along with holiday lodges and a café/bistro.
But the proposals were rejected by councillors in February.
The tombstoning stunt was described as "utter madness" by one witness.
He added: "I was there with the dog last night to get him cooled down. It wasn’t just local teens, there were from out with the area and some were in their 20s.
"I tried to warn them jumping off the rock face but it made no difference."
Rod Lumsden, who lives locally, said: "It's only a matter of time before we are mourning the loss of another kid at the quarry.
"This place demands to be made safe, if housing ensures that then so be it."
Inflatables, piles of rubbish, bottles, and a t-shirt and bra were seen littering the site following the aftermath of the crowds on Monday. The mess re-sparked contention again over the use of the quarry.
One woman from the area said: "And people don’t want it developed?!
"I’m sure you’d rather have a nice place to walk round than have to deal with this all the time."
Another responded: "I’d love to see the quarry developed and made safer, but the problem is they want to also build houses and holiday lets all along the coastal path.
"That’s what most people are opposing."
A spokesperson for PoliceScotland said: "We received a report of youths jumping into the quarry but no criminality was established."
The Mirror reported earlier this month how visitors watched on in horror as a young man was injured after 'tombstoning' at a popular hotspot in Devon.
Groups of young people were spotted jumping off a jagged cliff and plummeting into the sea below in Imperial Ledge, Torquay.
A young man suffered a suspected leg injury after falling into the sea, with coastguard rescue teams called to the scene at Peaked Tor Cove shortly after 3.30pm on July 9.
Emergency services including HM Coastguard’s Torbay and Berryhead Coastguard Rescue Teams, Torbay RNLI lifeboat, South West Ambulance Service, and HART were sent to the incident near the Imperial Hotel.
A video shot from the scene showed a large group of youngsters standing on the edge of the cliff before plummeting below.
