Mad Men actor Robert Morse has died at the age of 90

Mad Men actor Robert Morse has died at the age of 90, it has been confirmed by his family.

Robert was a well known face to viewers across the globe and famously played the eccentric co-founder of ad agency Sterling Cooper, Bert Cooper, in hit TV series Mad Men.

He was born on May 18, 1931 in Newton, Massachusetts and became known after his role in 1961 Broadway production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

He played the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical and won a Tony award, ahead of appearing in the film production of the show.

He was awarded a second for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the 1989 production of one-man play Tru.

The acclaimed actor garnered five Emmy nominations for his performance as Bertram Cooper on the AMC series Mad Men.

Bertram was never without a bow tie, and co-founded ad agency Sterling Cooper in 1923 along with Roger Sterling, Sr.

He later became a founding partner of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce before his death on the show in July 20, 1969.

He was also an avid collector of Japanese art and architecture as reflected in the decor of his office, rarely wore shoes indoors and insisted that all visitors to his office remove their shoes.

Robert's son Charlie confirmed the news to Eyewitness News last night.

Writer and producer Larry Karaszewski said of him on Twitter, writing: "My good pal Bobby Morse has passed away at age 90.

"A huge talent and a beautiful spirit. Sending love to his son Charlie & daughter Allyn.

"Had so much fun hanging with Bobby over the years - filming People v OK & hosting so many screenings (How To Succeed, Loved One, That's Life)."

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Roberts and his children, Charlie Morse, Robin Morse, Hilary Morse, Andrea Doven.
