The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a beloved holiday tradition, is set to kick off in New York City with a host of new additions and familiar favorites. This year marks the parade's 100th anniversary, and the festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever.
Among the highlights of this year's parade are new giant character balloons featuring Spider-Man and Minnie Mouse, as well as a variety of themed floats, including a zoo-themed float and one celebrating the Bronx Zoo's 125th anniversary. Performances from renowned artists such as Jennifer Hudson and Idina Menzel will add to the excitement of the event.
While the parade has evolved over the years, some elements have remained constant. Just as in its inaugural year in 1924, the parade will feature marching bands, clowns, and a grand finale with Santa Claus ushering in the holiday season.
The parade will include 17 giant character balloons, 22 floats, 15 novelty and heritage inflatables, 11 marching bands, 700 clowns, and 10 performance groups. The WNBA champion New York Liberty will also make an appearance.
Organizers are prepared for any weather conditions, as the parade will go on rain or shine. The only times the parade has been canceled in its history were during World War II. Wind speeds will be closely monitored to ensure the safety of the giant balloons.
The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Manhattan's Upper West Side and wind its way through the city, ending at Macy's Herald Square flagship store on 34th Street. The event will be broadcast on NBC and streamed on the network's Peacock service, with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo.
With a mix of new attractions and timeless traditions, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade promises to delight spectators and kick off the holiday season in style.
