Macron 'does not mind confrontation' with anti-EU, anti-NATO voices: Analyst Jacques Rupnik

TALKING EUROPE © FRANCE 24

In this programme, we unpack the first round of France's presidential election, which left incumbent Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the running for the most powerful job in France. Our guest is Jacques Rupnik, Research Professor at the Centre for International Studies at Paris's Sciences Po university.

The two remaining candidates in the April 24 run-off have very different visions for France and for its role in Europe.

They also have very different relationships with Vladimir Putin. Marine Le Pen insisted this week that France can renormalise relations with the Russian president in the future, this even as evidence of more potential war crimes against Ukrainian civilians is uncovered.

With our guest Jacques Rupnik, we look into what the outcome of the second round could mean for France, Europe and beyond.

Produced by Perrine Desplats, Isabelle Romero, Georgina Robertson and Sophie Samaille.
