Macomb County Official Uses Police Escort To Speed Up Vote Counting

An official in Macomb County, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit and a historic swing county, has taken proactive measures to expedite the vote counting process. Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini has arranged for a police escort to retrieve memory cards from voting precincts in order to accelerate the tabulation of votes.

The decision to utilize a police escort comes in response to unexpectedly long lines at polling stations, which resulted in the polls remaining open past the scheduled 8 p.m. ET closing time. Consequently, the anticipated release of results at 9 p.m. ET has been delayed. However, officials in Macomb County are diligently working to tally the votes and provide accurate results in a timely manner.

According to Forlini, the significant voter turnout in Macomb County has been reflected in the numbers, with over 122,000 early in-person votes and 182,000 mail-in ballots recorded as of Wednesday. These figures underscore the high level of civic engagement and participation in the electoral process within the county.
