Mack Hansen's dream start to Ireland debut as fans hail Australian-born wing

As debuts go, Mack Hansen's couldn't have started much better for Ireland against Wales on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year-old was a surprise name on Andy Farrell's teamsheet when the squad was announced on Thursday, but the Connacht man enjoyed a dream start to his career in a green shirt.

The Australian-born wing, the leading try-scorer in this season’s United Rugby Championship, made an immediate impact.

He launched Ireland’s first attack by running powerfully from inside his own half, before delivering the scoring pass to his Connacht colleague Bundee Aki for an opening try after just three minutes.

Skipper Johnny Sexton converted from the touchline, and Ireland were off and running with a 7-0 lead.

And social media was full of praise for Hansen.

One person said: "Mack Hansen with the best start to a debut of all time."

Another commented: "Mack Hansen is having a blinder so far on the wing and great pass to set up a try.

One other fan tweeted: "Mack Hansen , first two touches in test rugby. 50 metre break and Skip pass for a try. Beautiful."

Someone else posted: "Mack Hansen involved in everything about that try, as Bundee Aki scores out wide. It's all Connacht in Dublin!"

Another tweet read: "Really good work off his wing from Mack Hansen to offer the deep option right before switching left to assist Aki's try. Very nice attacking rugby."
