Machine Gun Kelly, the 34-year-old rapper, recently threw out the first pitch at Progressive Field in Cleveland as part of the Guardians' 'MGK Day' promotion. Instead of the traditional pitch, Kelly decided to put a unique spin on the moment. Wearing a custom 'MGK' Guardians jersey, he started his windup like a Major League pitcher but then surprised everyone by sprinting towards the third base line and throwing the ball into the crowd, giving one lucky fan a souvenir.
Despite the pitch being way off target, it was a deliberate move by Kelly to entertain the crowd. This unconventional pitch joins the ranks of other memorable first pitch blunders, such as 50 Cent's infamous toss in 2014 and Dr. Anthony Fauci's pitch in 2020.
Even famous athletes have had their share of embarrassing first pitches. Michael Jordan famously threw a pitch so high over Sammy Sosa's head that Sosa couldn't catch it, and Team USA gymnast Simone Biles impressed with a backflip twist before delivering a strike at the 2019 World Series.
On the same night, college basketball star Paige Bueckers also threw out a first pitch at Target Field in Minnesota. The Twins went on to win against the Kansas City Royals with a score of 13-3.
