Machine Gun Kelly bizarrely shares US moon landing conspiracy theory in AMA speech

Machine Gun Kelly shared a bizarre conspiracy theory over the weekend as he expressed doubts over whether the US moon landing actually happened.

The rapper, who is engaged to Megan Fox, made the comments during his acceptance speech at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, but later insisted he was still "going to Mars".

Kelly accepted his award for Favourite Rock Artist when he used the moon landing to defend his music following criticism from people in the rock community who see him as a "tourist" in the genre.

"There have been some people in the rock community who called me a tourist, but they’re wrong.

"I’m a rocket man. We weren’t born on the moon but we looked at it and we were curious and then we went there… supposedly… and these two rock albums were me going to the moon.

"But I’m not exploring the universe yet, and I am all genres," he said in his speech.

Moon landing conspiracists believe humans have never stepped foot on the moon. They think the Apollo 11 landing in 1969, during which Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon, was faked.

The conspiracy theorists think it was a hoax created by the US government in order to win the space race.

Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, commanded attention at the ceremony by wearing a spiky purple suit which he admitted was "really uncomfortable to pee in".

The 32-year-old shared a series of pictures of the avant-garde outfit to Instagram in a post which gained more than 800,000 likes.

In the caption, he wrote: "im not a tourist, im a rocket man…see you on mars motherf**kersss @amas THANK YOU TO MY LOYAL FAMILY WHO VOTED US FAVORITE ROCK ARTIST."

This echoed the end of his acceptance speech in which he said: "We're going to Mars motherf**kers," before throwing the mic stand and storming off stage.

The recognition seems to keep coming for MGK, as he recently received his first-ever Grammy nomination.

Congratulating her fiancé, Megan Fox wrote on her Instagram Stories: "WOW congratulations to my Grammy nominated fiancé and hottest Edward Scissorhands cosplayer.

"You work harder than anyone I've ever known and are twice as talented. You deserve this."
