Machete 'fight' sparks armed response

Armed police swooped following reports of a brawl involving a machete.

Officers had received a call over an “altercation” involving a group of men who were possibly armed on Iveagh Close in Palacefields, Runcorn, at around 9pm on Tuesday. The Cheshire and North Wales Alliance Armed Policing Unit tweeted that response vehicles were deployed to “report of males fighting with a machete”, with “two males arrested”.

Two teenagers were detained at a nearby property for suspected affray.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 9pm on Tuesday, April 19, police were called to reports of an altercation on Iveagh Close, Runcorn.

“The caller reported that some of the men involved were possibly armed.

“Local officers, supported by the firearms unit, were dispatched to the scene and two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested at a nearby address on suspicion of affray.

“No weapons were recovered and there were no reports of any injuries.”

The armed alliance tweeted: “Earlier this evening, report of males fighting with a machete in the #Runcorn area.

ARVs deployed and arrested 2 males.....
