Machete burglar breaks into man's house and severs his artery

A burglar has been jailed after breaking into a man’s home and slicing his artery with a machete.

Daniel Dickinson, 30, cornered the victim and attacked him in his living room in Ellesmere Port. The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was jailed for 11 years. He will also receive four years on extended licence.

Nathan Tuppeny, also 30, of High Street Gresford, North Wales was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he admitted helping Dickinson get away in his vehicle.

DCI Justin Hancock, crime manager for Ellesmere Port said: “Everyone has a right to feel safe in their own home, so I cannot imagine how the victim must have felt when he discovered a man, wearing a balaclava and wielding a weapon, in his address.

“While the victim will never be able to forget what happened on that night, I hope that the sentences handed to Dickinson and Tuppeny will provide him with some closure and allow him to move forward with his life.”

The victim was in bed at 10.20pm on Sunday, July 7 when he heard a loud banging noise. The 43-year-old homeowner was told to get down on the floor by Dickinson but he refused.

Dickinson then severed the man’s artery in his right shoulder with a machete. When the man tried to run the burglar cut into his head.

Later the victim managed to get help and was taken to hospital. His injuries could have been “far worse” if he did not receive urgent medical attention, according to the police.

Ellesmere Port CID found the weapon used by Dickinson and managed to forensically link him to the attack.

Police officers seized mobile phones which contained messages about the aggravated burglary.
