Burglars 'forcing windows' to get into 'priority target' homes

Student houses and flats in Liverpool have been hit by a string of burglaries throughout November.

Three burglaries occurred in flats in Wavertree and Toxteth, a popular area for student houses in Liverpool, and a further seven occurred in houses across Liverpool. The burglaries took place between Tuesday, November 15 to Saturday, November 26, with items like laptops and MacBooks being taken, as well as a set of car keys and a Blue Fiat 500 which were taken from an address on Hartington Road in Liverpool.

Student flats have often been a target for burglars as they're often empty at night with students on nights out, and usually contain multiple laptops and other tech equipment. Student houses also often have more than one car, making them a priority target for burglars.

Detective Inspector Steven Byrom said: “It appears that the offenders are attempting to force entry via windows. I would like to reassure residents that we are thoroughly investigating each crime and doing all we can to bring these offenders to justice. Local policing are also stepping up patrols in the area and will speak to any residents who have concerns about the recent burglaries.

“This type of crime can have a lasting effect on the victims involved, from the shock and unease felt by having somebody invade your home, the inconvenience of losing property, through to the fear and psychological impacts. If you live in the area and you know anything about the burglaries please check your CCTV and doorbell footage to see if you have captured any suspicious activity from Tuesday 15 November to Saturday 26 November.

"The support of our communities is vital in helping us put offenders behind bars. If you discover video footage on your home security camera, smart doorbell or even a dashcam that shows someone acting suspiciously on your property, you can upload it for the attention of the Operation Castle team using this link.”

If you've been affected by these burglaries, we'd love to speak to you. You can contact the Liverpool ECHO via Facebook, Twitter or email us on news@liverpool.com.
