Macaulay Culkin's face is one of the most recognisable in the world.
He became child actor royalty aged just ten, when he landed the role of Kevin McAllister in Home Alone, opposite stars including Catherine O'Hara and Joe Pesci.
The film would propel him to stardom, but fame always comes at a cost, and an alleged drugs battle would leave many fans shocked at how different he looked as he grew up.
Macaulay turns 41 on Thursday, and has beaten his demons, even welcoming a baby son this year.
He stepped away from acting when he was 14 in a bid to focus on high school - but this can't have been easy as a young celebrity.
Next, at the age of 15, Macaulay took explosive step to formally emancipate himself by removing his mum and dad as his legal guardians.

It was reported the teen wanted to keep his hands solely on the £13million fortune he'd amassed and to stop his parents, Kit and Patricia, from controlling his future.
With Macaulay bagging up to £6million a movie, Kit and Patricia were said to be pocketing 15% of their son's pay cheques.
"Look, I mean, it sucks. But, it coulda been worse, you know?" he told Esquire last year.
"I wasn’t working in a coal mine. I wasn’t a child soldier. My father was not sexually abusing me. ‘Certain f***ed up things happened, but f****d up things happen to kids all the time and they don’t come out the other end."
In 2004 a 24-year-old Macaulay's mugshot was shared around the world when he was charged with possessing marijuana and a controlled substance without a prescription after having his car searched by police officers in Oklahoma.
He pled guilty to possessing marijuana and medication without a prescription. He was given a one-year deferred jail sentence and was ordered to pay £300 in fees.
In 2012, fans were shocked and concerned by photos of Macualay looking gaunt and frail while clutching an energy drink.
It was speculated he was addicted to heroin and oxycodone, but Macaulay insists he did not touch hard drugs.
"No I was not pounding six grand of heroin a month," the actor said in an interview with The Guardian.
Speaking about recreational drugs, he told Esquire : "I do love them. They're like old friends. But sometimes you outgrow your friends."
He admitted he "played with fire" and said some of his most "illuminating" experiences in his life had been down to drugs.
But he confirmed that aside from the occasional "muscle relaxer", he did not take anything any more - particularly as he and his partner Brenda Song were trying for a baby at the time.
He has been with 33-year-old Brenda, famed for her roles in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Social Network, since 2017.
Previously, Macaulay was in a relationship with actress Mila Kunis from 2002-2010.
In April, Brenda and Macaulay welcomed their first baby together, and named him after Macaulay's late sister, Dakota, who died after a a tragic car accident.
According to Esquire, Dakota Song Culkin was born in Los Angeles on April 5, at 1.10pm and weighed in at 6lbs 14ozs.
Her name is reportedly a tribute to Macaulay's late sister, who sadly passed away from her injuries after she stepped in front of a moving vehicle outside a Los Angeles bar in 2008.
A spokeswoman said at the time that Macaulay described his sister Dakota's death as a "'terrible tragic accident'.
There was no criminal investigation after the accident as it was found the driver was not drunk or driving inappropriately and had tried to help Dakota at the scene.
As well as raising his son with Brenda, Macaulay is still working hard.
He is CEO and publisher of a satirical pop culture website and podcast called Bunny Ears, and even held a contest allowing people to vote on a new middle name for him — changing it from Carson to either: Macaulay Culkin, Kieran, TheMcRibIsBack, Publicity Stunt, and Shark Week.
With a whopping 61,000 votes, the winner was 'Macaulay Culkin' and Macaulay legally changed his name to Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.
On his 40th birthday, he tweeted, "Hey guys, wanna feel old? I'm 40. You're welcome," and the tweet went on to become the ninth most-liked tweet of all time.
But Macaulay has not turned his back on acting, either.
More than 30 years after Home Alone was released, he landed a role in the upcoming season 10 of American Horror Story: Double Feature.
The series' first trailer shows his debut playing a character called Mickey in Ryan Murphy's horror anthology series.
He will join the ensemble cast of Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Lily Rabe, Francis Conroy and Finn Wittrock, who regularly star in the show.
AHS 10 is split into two parts - the first is Red Tide, set in an idyllic seaside down with some dark secrets - and will unleash sea monsters onto the unsuspecting town residents.
The season's second part is called Death Valley set by the sand and will feature an alien invasion.
Macaulay is first seen in the trailer alongside AHS regular Leslie Grossman, who plays Ursula.
They are sitting at a table, and Ursula tells a brooding Mickey: "Something weird is going on here. And I want to know what it is."
The series will be available to stream in the UK from September 8.
