Macabre home where killer dad Chris Watts butchered his wife and daughters up for sale

The haunted luxury home of the family of Colorado killer Chris Watts is up for sale.

Set in Frederick, Colorado, the home is now on sale for the equivalent of around £557,000 and has views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.

It was listed under a fake address on the reality website Rocket Homes to try and warn off people interested in the grim history of the house. Buyers also have to prove they have the funds before touring the property.

Four bedrooms and five bathrooms on a 0.15-acre site otherwise make the house a dream home for potential buyers, if suitors can ignore the horrible crimes that took place there.

The kitchen is a large space with a marble island in the middle, while a tiled floor contrasts the dark wood of the cabinets. Most of the house is still painted the same colour as the chosen paint by Chris and Shannan.

Reports indicate that the house has not received a formal bid so far.

Watts is now serving five life sentences as well as another 48 years in prison for his crimes and there is no possibility of parole after he strangled his pregnant wife Shannan and smothered their two children.

The convicted murderer then dumped his family's bodies around 40 miles away, burying Shannan in a shallow grave and putting the bodies of his daughters, aged three and four, in oil drums.

The life of the family in the house is heavily featured in the haunting Netflix documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door.

On the face of it, the family seemed happy in the luxury home, but life was unravelling with Chris becoming increasingly distant.

Shannan complained to her friends that he was having doubts about a third child while also talking far less.

She sadly texted a friend shortly before she was killed: "He has changed. I don't know who he is... He hasn't touched me all week, kissed me, talked to me except for when I'm trying to figure out what is wrong."

Chris, meanwhile, had been conducting an affair with mistress Nichol Kessinger and attempted to assure her he had done nothing wrong as the police circled the net, he was issuing public pleas for any information about his family's whereabouts.

Nichol texted him: "If you did something bad, you’re going to ruin your life. And if you did something bad, you’re going to ruin my life. I promise you that."

A denying Chris said: "I didn't hurt my family, Nicky."
