M9 closure improvement works get underway

A section of the M9 motorway at Grangemouth is going to be closed from tonight because it's getting a £200,000 resurface upgrade.

It means the southbound carriageway between J5 and J3 will be shut from 7:30pm until 6am for three nights from Tuesday February 15.

During these closures, a diversion route for southbound traffic will be signposted from M9 Junction 5 to M9 Junction 3 via the A905, A904, A993 and A803, adding an estimated 8 minutes to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Road bosses say that due to the depth of construction, one lane of the southbound M9 will be closed during the day on Wednesday February 16, to allow adequate cooling time for materials, however the hard shoulder will be utilised to ensure two lanes remain open to traffic.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: "These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the M9.

"Carriageway closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

"We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
