The road has been closed while the M73, junction two slip road has also been shut down. There is no indication as to the nature of the incident or whether there are any casualties.

The force confirmed on Twitter officers were at the scene.

A statement said: "Officers from Road Police Glasgow are dealing with an incident on the M8 Motorway west at Junction 8.

"We are advising drivers to please avoid this location as the westbound carriageway is currently closed at M8 Junction 8 west and closed from the M73 Junction 2 onto the M8 West."

Traffic Scotland advised motorists to find an alternative route.
