M8 crash causes rush hour chaos as emergency services race to scene

A car has crashed on the M8 in Glasgow, sparking rush hour chaos.

The accident took place at around 8am at Junction 23 on the Westbound carriageway at Dumbreck junction on Tuesday, January 10.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Trauma Injury Severity Score (TRISS), are currently in attendance. It is understood no one has been injured, and only one vehicle was involved.

Photos taken at the scene, which were shared on social media, show a white coloured Corsa abandoned in the middle of one of the lanes. It appears to have ploughed into a stationary object at the side of the busy road.

Its front bumper looks to have been damaged in the collision, and its hazard lights are on. Transport bosses have warned that traffic is 'very heavy' on approach and that the M74 is also experiencing delays.

Commuters have been advised that they may face a lengthy wait of up to 30 minutes when passing through the affected area.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "M74 and M8 Junction 23, the Westbound carriageway at Dumbreck junction lane 1 (of 2) is currently restricted due to a collision.

"Police are in attendance. Traffic is very heavy on approach. Current delay on the M74 approx. 28 minutes."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 8am on Tuesday, 10 January, 2023, police were called to a road traffic collision involving one car on the M8 at J23.

"There are no reports of any injuries. Arrangements are being made to uplift the vehicle.”
