M621 closure in Leeds: Motorway to shut for 12 nights in August as major roadworks take place

A major Leeds road will be closed overnight for a number of days later this month for a series of improvement work.

National Highways has announced the M621 will be closed overnight between August 9 and August 21 for a series of major improvement works to the key junctions and slip roads on the carriageway.

The M621 is a very busy short loop of motorway in West Yorkshire that takes traffic into central Leeds between the M1 and M62 motorways.

Upcoming closures include: J2 slip road closure, eastbound carriageaway closure between J4 and J1, westbound carriageway closure between J1 and J3, installation of narrower lanes - eastbound between J27 M62 to J3, installation of narrower lanes - westbound between J7 and J3, installation of narrower lanes - westbound between J4 and J1.

All works will take place between the hours of 8pm and 5am each night in a bid to lessen delays to traffic.

National Highways said: "We know there’s never a good time to close a busy road like the M621, but to mitigate any impact on road users we will be carrying these works out overnight while traffic levels are lighter. So, if you don’t see us working on the road during the day, this is why.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we begin carrying our improvement work."
