The M62 has been closed in Cheshire tonight due to a 'police incident'.
Both carriageways of the motorway were closed between junctions 8 and 9 near Warrington shortly after 9pm on Sunday. The motorway remained closed tonight while Cheshire Police deal with an incident.
National Highways North West tweeted about the closure earlier tonight, stating: "The #M62 in #Cheshire is closed in both directions between J8 and J9 due to a @cheshirepolice led incident."
The emergency services are at the scene.
Diversions have been put in place and motorists have been urged to avoid the area if possible.
The exact nature of the incident is still unknown.
