M62 brought to a halt after car fire

A car is on fire on the M62, bringing traffic to a halt.

Traffic news service Inrix reports that all traffic is being temporarily held and traffic is stationary due to a car fire on M62 Eastbound between Junction 8 (Warrington West / Burtonwood) and Junction 9 ( Winwick ). Traffic was held at around 9.40am on Thursday, according to Inrix.

North West Motorway police confirmed that the road has been closed and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are en-route. Nobody has been injured.

Said: "Merseyside have just closed the M62 East Bound between junction 8 and 9 due to a car fire. Fire and Rescue en-route. No one injured thankfully. We will hopefully have it re-opened soon."

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
