Police have dubbed a driver 'Fred Flintstone' after finding a hole in the footwell of his white transit van. Motorway officers were shocked after stopping and searching the shabby vehicle near Junction 14 northbound of the M6 not far past Stafford, about 30 miles north of Birmingham.
They were floored when they found a gaping hole in the driver's side of the vehicle. The hole was so big, the driver could literally put his foot in it and rest it on the road surface.
The police thought the spectacle was like a scene out of the cartoon series The Flintstones, in which Fred Flintstone is often seen starting his stone age car by putting his feet through the footwell to the ground in order to get the vehicle moving. The van driver's vehicle, not surprisingly, was seized.
The Central Motorway Police Group, made up of West Midlands Police and Staffordshire Police, tweeted on Friday (July 29): "Officers conducted a stop check on a van and thought they met Fred Flintstone when they discovered a hole in the driver's footwell. #footpower. Van prohibited and driver reported for several offences."
The van picture sparked a flurry of comments on social media. Andy Frizzell said: "Is that Fred Flintstone’s van ?"
TruckerRichie wrote: "That's the new braking system complete with air flow." Steve Grocutt posted: "Did he have enough tread on the sole of those boots?"
