Standing traffic for miles triggered a different kind of jam on the M6. To cope with the frustration of going nowhere, a live brass band started playing in the middle of the motorway to entertain drivers.
And as the party mood kicked in there was also dancing on the highway, and table football on the motorway near Preston. Footage of people gathering around the band near a coach clapping and dancing was shared on social media.
As two separate incidents caused hours of gridlock on the motorway on Friday, those trapped decided to step out of their vehicles and make the most of a fairly miserable situation. What followed were surreal scenes as boredom and frustration brought people together.

Speeding cars and beeping horns were replaced by the sound of a band which was among the groups stuck in traffic. Crowds gathered round to enjoy the music with dancing and singing accompanying the music, LancsLive reports.
Elsewhere, different travellers brought a football table out of their vehicle and set up for a game on one of the lanes. With delays running for nine miles and two hours, it seemed a much more agreeable way to use the time.
Trouble first broke out on the motorway at 6am when a lorry fire held up traffic before a full closure was put in place half an hour later between J32 and J31A southbound. Six fire engines were sent to the scene and the efforts to tackle and blaze and remove the vehicle went on for several hours.
Even when traffic was released, the miles of backlog meant that long delays continued to be a problem and those hours of delays were later added to after a police incident closed the M6 in both directions at J31 M55 (Broughton Interchange) to J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South/Garstang)
National Highways North West said that the major roadblock was due to a Lancashire Police-led incident that involved a pedestrian on the network.
