M56 traffic warning after road floods next to junction

A warning has been issued to drivers after a road was flooded due to a burst mains water pipe.

Yesterday afternoon a mains water pipe burst just off Junction 14 of the M56, on the junction of Ince Lane and the A5117 near Ellesmere Port. The road was flooded, and its surface raised by the flooding, causing it to crack heavily.

Yesterday the road was cordoned off with the help of police due to the flooding. Works are currently underway to repair the damage and diversions are in place.

A warning has been issued to drivers by Cheshire West and Chester Council to avoid the area if possible.

A spokesperson for Cheshire West and Chester Council told the ECHO: "Following a burst at Ince Lane yesterday, United Utilities is now working to fix the problem.

"Temporary signals are in place and delays can be expected, particularly for traffic travelling on the A5117 from Ellesmere Port towards the M56. Please avoid the area if possible."

A spokesperson for United Utilities told the ECHO: "We were made aware of a leak on Ince Lane in Elton yesterday. Our teams attended and are continuing with the repairs today.

"We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst the works are taking place."
