M5 traffic: One hour delays near Bristol amid Easter holiday chaos

There are "severe" delays on the M5 near Bristol this afternoon (April 7). According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, there are tailbacks of around one hour on the southbound carriageway

The motorway is busiest between junction 18 for the M49 and junction 20 for Clevedon. A National Highways motorway camera shows congestion building in all three lanes as well as some vehicles leaving the M5 at junction 18A.

The latest log from Inrix says: "Severe delays and queueing traffic due to holiday traffic on M5 Southbound between J18 M49 and J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way ( Clevedon ). Travel time is 60 minutes."

Earlier today, there was heavy traffic heading southbound between junctions 15 and 20. These delays have now eased.

Shortly after 12.30pm, all traffic was held near Sedgemoor Services due to a crash and fuel spillage. There were delays of around 90 minutes as a result but the crash has since cleared.
