The next few weeks will see motorist volume soar thanks to the warm spring weather and the many upcoming bank holidays. And while the thought of a mini getaway sounds nice, a pit stop after a long drive on the highway is even better.
For many, a budget-friendly hotel with hot running and soft linen is all you need but for others, a bad hotel experience is often hard to forget.
Newly released research by car maintenance brand Prestone has discovered the best and worst motorway hotels across the UK, according to customer reviews from TripAdvisor, Google and the hotel’s own sites.
Out of the 90 motorway service hotels that were analysed, the Days Inn by Wyndham at Taunton Deane services on the M5 scored second in the top 10 worst motorway hotels in the UK.
Past visitors have said: “Beds were like sleeping on soft wobbly jelly. Neither of us slept really at all. Cheap but not worth it.”
Roadchef, the service operator that looks after Taunton Deane services, appears a further four times in the top 10 worst motorway hotels list.
But it's not all bad, the Travelodge Bristol at Severn View services on the M48 appeared in the top 10 best motorway hotels, which also makes it the best motorway hotel in the South West.
Moto, which operates the Severn View services, appears a total of six times in the top 10 best motorway hotels across 5 different regions.
Bristol Live has approached Days Inn and Roadchef for comment.
