M5 chaos as protesters spark delays by 'deliberately slowing traffic'

A convoy of protestors has caused chaos on the M5 and across its bridges today in a campaign for 'freedom and human rights choice'.

The long line of cars adorned with protest banners and flags were seen emerging from Exeter Moto services, Devon off junction 30 and then heading onto the M5, while others have also been seen protesting on bridges and waving flags, Devon Live reports.

The convoy, which involves hundreds of cars and vans, has reportedly stopped at Taunton services allegedly to move onto Bristol as their next destination.

An eyewitness who saw the convoy in Devon said: "There was loads of cars with Canadian flags and Great Britain flags. Loads of people were on the bridges with flags too.

"I was driving southbound and saw a lot of cars going the opposite way."

One of the protestors in the convoy spoke to Devon Live to confirm what the protest is in aid of.

Sahara Hawker, a member of UK Freedom Convoy, said: "It is a freedom and human rights choice protest. It is not an anti-vax protest."

Travel reports have stated that the demonstration is causing heavy traffic on the M5 Northbound at junction 27 in Tiverton.

Inrix said: "Demonstrators are deliberately driving slow around the area."

Latest travel reports have confirmed traffic has now returned back to normal.
