M5 Avonmouth Bridge has overnight closures for a month from today

Overnight resurfacing work is due to take place on the M5 Avonmouth Bridge from tonight and will last for a month. The first set of work will start on the southbound carriageway.

Three lanes will be closed between junctions 18 and 19 with one remaining open from 10pm to 6am on weeknights only. The work will conclude on Tuesday, October 11.

From this date, the resurfacing work will move to the northbound carriageway, with the same arrangements, and will last until October 28. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys over the next four weeks.

Outside the 10pm to 6am closures, the bridge will be open as usual during the day, and while the overnight work is being carried out, southbound M49 traffic will be diverted via St Brendan’s roundabout to join the M5 southbound.

Andrew Gale, National Highways’ Service Manager, said: “We’re minimising disruption by carrying out the work overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest, we advise people to add a little extra time for their journeys and thank all drivers in advance for their co-operation and patience.”
