Viral killer doll M3GAN is returning to our screens – and has a new look.
The box office success of M3GAN in 2022 ensured a sequel would not be far away, and now horror fans have mere months to wait to get their next instalment of the terrifying doll’s antics.
New first-look images have been shared with Entertainment Weekly and details on the Blumhouse horror sequel are slowly being revealed.
The full trailer has not been released yet but a short promo was shared by Universal last year.
Blumhouse’s M3GAN franchise will expand further than just the second film, as there is also a spinoff movie, titled SOULM8TE, in the works.
SOULM8TE is being billed as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist” and will be released on January 2, 2026 – just six months after M3GAN’s return.
Here is everything we know about the sequel (note: there are spoilers about the first film).
When is M3GAN 2.0 coming out?
The film is set to hit UK cinemas on June 25, 2025 so fans have just six months to wait.
What happened at the end of M3GAN and how will she return?
Spoiler alert! At the end of the first film M3GAN was defeated... or so we thought.
Gemma and Cady got the better of the killer robot and it looked as if she was gone for good. But in the final scene viewers saw Gemma's smart home device Elsie turn to watch them. Could M3GAN have transferred her knowledge to Elsie before going down?
We also saw a Funki employee steal all the information about how to create M3GAN. It's never explained why but could that could be another way for M3GAN to return?
Will M3GAN the doll appear?
The sequel appears to show a different doll, but previous reports have suggested it is still the same M3GAN - so it seems she just has a new look.
According to director Gerard Johnstone, he and his team thought that they "couldn't leave [their] girl out of it".
He explained he wanted to include "10 different looks for M3GAN" so that, in typical doll fashion, they would be "able to play dress-up".
He said: “We couldn't leave our girl out of it. She's a living doll, and part of the fun of having a doll is being able to play dress-up. We had a couple of looks in the first film but I wanted 10 different looks for M3GAN. For the sequel, I felt like here's a chance to do that.”
Who will be in the film?
Allison Williams is back as Gemma and Violet McGraw as Lady are back for M3GAN 2.0, with Akela Cooper (Malignant, M3GAN) once again writing the script and James Wan on board to produce.
Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari and Jemaine Clement also feature.
