M25: No more weekend closures in 2024 after 'complete success' with roadworks

There will be no more weekend closures of the M25 in 2024 recent works were deemed a “complete success”.

Works on Junction 10 at Wisley forced the motorway to close at weekends three times since March, which is one of the country’s busiest stretches of road.

But National Highways said in a statement that the latest works ended ahead of schedule on Sunday, meaning no more weekend closures in 2024.

There had originally been five weekend closures of the major motorway planned. The two remaining closures will take place in Spring 2025.

National Highways said: "We will give a minimum of four weeks’ notice for these closures so you can plan ahead, and we will avoid busy holiday periods."

However, motorists are being warned that some closures will take place on the M25 and the A3, but not for full weekends.

National Highways said it would also be doing some 12 hour night closures on the M25 through the autumn.

The £317m project, which is slated to be finished next year, aims to increase the number of lanes at the junction with the A3.

Officials hope this will reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands of motorists using the busy route.

Separately, TfL on Wednesday warned of closures of the A40 Westway from Sunday until mid-October for critical safety work, with drivers being warned of busy diversions.

Work to the route, one of the capital’s busiest roads, is needed to make sure the road stays safe, Transport for London said.

Structures which carry the Wood Lane flyover to the Marylebone flyover date back to 1969 and now require urgent maintenance as they have reached the end of their service life.

The closures will begin from 10pm on Sunday.
