Photos show the aftermath of a collision involving a lorry which closed a stretch of the M1 and caused nine-mile queues. The collision on the northbound carriageway, at junction 29 for the A617 (Chesterfield and Mansfield), caused 90 minute delays.
The incident was reported just before 5pm on Monday (February 13), and the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit confirmed one person had to be rescued from their vehicle.
"Motorway had to be closed temporarily to extract one casualty from vehicle but luckily no serious injuries," officers wrote in an update on Twitter. Police thanked their partners at National Highways: East Midlands, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service for their assistance.

The police also shared an image showing when the northbound carriageway was closed. A car could be seen stationed across the width of a lane.
At the time of the incident, there was also a broken down lorry on the southbound carriageway. This separate incident closed a lane, and traffic was slower than usual as a result.
