M&S recalls curry after mix-up on packaging leads to allergy fears

Marks and Spencer has recalled one of its curry ready meals because of concerns that it might be dangerous to allergy sufferers after a labelling mix-up.

The affected product is one batch of M&S Count on Us Thai style green chicken Curry, which have been removed because some packs contain crustaceans and molluscs which are not mentioned on the label. The curry is a risk to anyone with an allergy to crustaceans and/or molluscs.

The Food Standards Agency is advising anyone who is allergic and has bought the curry should not eat it and return it to any M&S store for a full refund.

The affected batch is:

Pack size: 350g

Best before: January 22, 2023

Marks & Spencer has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, which explains why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product. For more information contact Marks & Spencer on 03330148555.

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels or, as in this case, allergens.

If you've bought a product that's been recalled, you have the right to a refund thanks to the Consumer Rights Act. The retailer that sold it should offer you a full refund, even if it's been in your cupboard or freezer for a while. Even if you've already consumed the product or thrown it away, you are still entitled to a refund if you can provide proof of purchase such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation.
