M&S issues 'do not eat' warning for chocolate bar as product urgently recalled

M&S shoppers are being urged to check their cupboards for a chocolate bar that has been pulled from shelves as it may be unsafe to eat.

The supermarket chain has issued an urgent recall for its 180g own-branded Belgian dark chocolate bar with a best before date of 9/11/2023 after it was found to contain the presence of milk, reports The Mirror.

M&S has confirmed that only the displayed date code is affected and that no other batches of the chocolate bar seem to have been impacted by the recall.

An alert was posted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) earlier this week as the presence of milk has not been declared on the product ingredients, making it unsafe for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk to consume.

The FSA posted: "Marks & Spencer is recalling M&S Belgian Dark Chocolate Bar because some packs contain milk which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

Allergy alerts are posted by the FSA when a products labelling is incorrect or missing an ingredient that may be a risk for some shoppers to consume.

Shoppers who do have an allergy or intolerance to milk are being urged not to consume the product and to return it stores immediately for a full refund.

The supermarket has also put up point of sale notices in stores which will explain to its customers about the product recall and what to do if they have purchased it.

M&S has said: "We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused." Shoppers looking for further information are being urged to contact M&S on 03330l48555."
