M&S exec who stuffed cocaine and MDMA in bra was caught dealing at famous London club

A Marks & Spencer manager's botched plans to smuggle drugs into a nightclub in her bra has seen her narrowly avoid prison.

Charlotte Fennessy, a marketing and social media executive for the retail giants, was found with MDMA and cocaine in her underwear which she was planning to deal in London's Fabric nightclub.

The 22-year-old fashion marketing graduate was lifted at the popular Farringdon night spot days before Christmas last year after arriving with friends.

Security discovered 60 ecstasy pills and 331mg of cocaine - the latter of which she later said was for personal use - while searching her on December 19.

Fennessy, from Ditton, Kent, appeared at Southwark Crown Court pleading guilty to one count of possession of MDMA with intent to supply, and one count of possession of cocaine.

Stephen Wells, prosecuting, said: "She was searched in the usual way by security and they found a bag containing 60 pills concealed behind one of her bra straps."

Defence for Fennessy described her behaviour as "completely out of character".

"This is a young woman, a university graduate, very focused. She has worked throughout her life," Andrew Cohen told the court.

"She succeeded very well at university, and she has a good job now. This behaviour is completely out of character.

"This hasn't happened before and is unlikely to happen again. This is clearly someone who is not a criminal and finds herself in this situation.

"This has been horrifying for her friends and family, and horrifying for her. This whole business has weighed very heavily on her."

The judge spared Fennessy jail, noting she had been "immediately co-operative" and was "now usefully and successfully employed".

"I have no doubt that you have suffered tremendous anxiety as a result of this," Recorder John Ryder said.

"You are not going to prison, either immediately or by way of a suspended sentence.

"I think you made a mistake and a very serious one. You have likely learned an immense amount from it."

Fennessy was given a 12-month community order of 80 hours' unpaid work, and was ordered to pay £340 in prosecution costs and in a victim surcharge.

On her LinkedIn profile she says: "I am a 22 year old Fashion Marketing & Communications (BA Hons) graduate working as a Social Media Marketing Executive at M&S."
