A Marks and Spencer store and food hall in Cardiff is to close this spring. Staff at the food hall at Newport Road were informed of the decision this week.
The store will shut permanently when the lease comes to an end in a matter of weeks. The company says the decision was taken to ensure it can "invest" in other local stores.
Allison Jenkins, M&S regional manager, said: “We have this week announced to colleagues that our Cardiff Avenue food hall in Avenue Retail Park will close when our lease ends in the spring. Our priority is to support our colleagues through these changes, and wherever possible, we’ll be offering them alternative roles with M&S.”
With changes to the way customers use M&S Ms Jenkins explained how they are “reshaping the store estate to make sure we have the right stores in the right places”. “We are committed to our customers in Cardiff and these plans mean we can invest in our four other stores within a five-mile radius – including recently unveiling new-look food halls with a range of new features in both our Culverhouse Cross store and our city-centre Cardiff store,” she added.
