M*A*S*H actress Judy Farrell who starred as Nurse Able dies after suffering stroke

Actress Judy Farrell has died in hospital at the age of 84 after suffering a stroke.

The star was best known for playing Nurse Able on long-running TV series M*A*S*H.

Her son Michael confirmed she died on Sunday after suffering a strike which left her unable to speak nine days earlier.

Judy starred in the war-time based series for eight episodes. She starred alongside Alan Alda, who played the part of Captain Benjamin Hawkeye, and her first husband, Mike Farrell, who played Captain BJ Honeycutt in the sitcom popular in the '70s and '80s.

She was married to Mike between 1963 and 1983. Their marriage was said to have been worked into the script of M*A*S*H for a sole episode.

Son Michael told TMZ his mum was consciously alert and able to squeeze the hands of her loved ones while in hospital.

Following their divorce, she later married Joe Bratcher two years later.

She made a number of other guest appearances on other big-name classics on the small screen, including Get Smart and The Partridge Family.

Judy's resume also showcased series such as Quincy ME, while on the big screen she played a part in films including 1971's JW Coop, Chapter Two in 1979, and more recently Long-Term Relationship in 2006.
