At least two people have been killed and two are reported injured after a shooting near a stadium in Lyon.
Witnesses have said that four men were targeted during gunfire in the La Duchere district, close to the Stade de La Duchere stadium.
As well as two people dying, there have been two injured, according to local reports.
Of those injured, one is in a critical condition and the other was shot in the leg.
Emergency services rushed to the scene around midnight and police believe that it may have been an incident between rival gangs.
The shooting is thought to have begun shortly before midnight outside a building near the stadium, and it is just the latest incident of gun crime in the area.
Earlier this month an 18-year-old man was shot and wounded in Villeurbanne and he was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
And on May 11 there was another shooting by Jean Vallier Street and Avenue Jean Jaurès.
Three people in a Renault Megane with automatic weapons fired at a Citroen DS in which there was a group of four people.
A 23-year-old Algerian, who was known to the police, died from gunshot wounds while the three others in the car were injured.
Lyon Mayor Gregory Doucet said: "It was with sadness that I learned of the shooting this morning. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. Our municipal police and the national police are committed together and determined to protect you. I thank them and give them my support again."
The La Duchere region has been the scene of shootings due to turf wars in the area which have become a lot more common in the past two years.
