Chelsea will pay a total of £30.75million for Malo Gusto if he fulfills a series of bonus clauses agreed in his move from Lyon.
The French club have taken the unusual step, in terms of the modern market, of publicly confirming the exact transfer fee involved in the deal.
An initial cost of £26.3m is supplemented by £4.45m of bonuses “spread over the duration of the player’s contract”, Lyon say.
Gusto has put pen to paper on a deal to 2030 at Stamford Bridge and will join in the summer after a loan spell with his long-term club.
An official statement read: “Lyon regrets not having been able to keep one of our great hopes, trained at the academy, but remain happy to be able to count on him for the second part of the season.”
Gusto, 19, is Chelsea’s seventh signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Noni Madueke.
“I choose Chelsea because it's a big club and I like the project,” he said. “I'm very happy to be here.”
