French outfit Lyon have reportedly outmuscled Manchester United to become frontrunners in the race for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia.
The left-back has been linked with an Old Trafford switch over the last few months as Erik ten Hag begins a squad rebuild. United have said they are willing to listen to offers for Brandon Williams after a stale loan spell at Norwich.
Despite having Under-23s player of the season Alvaro Fernandez among his youth ranks, reports suggest Ten Hag is looking for another left-back. Luke Shaw is currently considered first-choice, though Alex Telles managed to get a decent runout this season amid the England international’s injuries.

United are not the only ones being linked with Malacia, with Newcastle also in the running. But the Mirror now report that Ligue 1 club Lyon have tabled a £12m bid for him.
Feyenoord are hoping to hold out for £15m, with the defender said to have his heart set on an exit. Meanwhile, The Athletic claim Nottingham Forest will be paying all of Dean Henderson’s wages during his loan from United.
They claim a season-long deal has already been agreed, subject to a medical. The Manchester Evening News understands the goalkeeper is earning £110,000-a-week but, according to The Athletic, United will not be paying a penny of it next term, freeing up the wage budget for new arrivals.
