Lyndon Dykes vows to use Scotland attitude to fire QPR into Premier League as hitman signs new deal

Lyndon Dykes set his sights on firing QPR back into the Premier League after penning a new three-year deal at Loftus Road.

And the Scotland hitman has vowed to use the no fear attitude that’s rocketed Steve Clarke’s troops to the top of their World Cup qualifying group and downed Spain on the way to help the Londoners get there. Dykes ended months of speculation that had seen him linked with Rangers among other clubs by penning a new deal through to 2026 with the Championship side.

And the 27-year-old, who took his Scotland tally to nine goals against Norway last week, insists his best is yet to come. He said: “When I got the call about extending my stay here it was a no brainer. It’s somewhere I want to stay, you look at the new training ground and the club’s going in a direction I want to go.

“Last year was a tough year but it’s behind us. Going forward, the manager coming in and having the pre-season with the full squad together it’s the direction we all want to be going in.

“The new training facilities are Premier League standard and from talking to people above that’s were they want to go. I want to play in the Premier League and hopefully I can do it with this club.

“So many years ago I’d never have expected to play in England for a club like this but also for international stage with Scotland. Every year I’m getting better. There’s always room for improvement. My best is yet to come.

“I’ll be doing everything to bring that out and hopefully my best helps the team build and get to where we want to be.”

Asked if the confidence gleaned from his Scotland form will help at club level the former Livingston and Queen of the South striker told QPR’s website: “It’s really good. What we’ve built with Scotland is really good. It’s taken time but we have a really tight togetherness in the team.

“If people watch games they can see our grit and determination against what they will say is bigger teams and better players. That doesn’t matter if you have a spirit and fight all the way to the end. I’ve loved being there and every time I play there it gives me lots of confidence.

“I want to bring that environment and feeling to QPR. Last year was tough but through those times you’re going to grow and show character. Now we have to build on that and show it all season.

“I’m really looking forward to the season because I think it’s going to be a good one.”
