Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes is facing another spell on the treatment table after sustaining a calf injury during his side’s English League One clash at Reading on Saturday.
The injury is now expected to sideline him for Scotland’s crucial UEFA Nations League play-off against Greece in March, with the former Livingston star a huge doubt for the upcoming double-header.
Dykes missed last year’s European Championships due to a serious knee injury, but he’s since returned and featured 32 times for Birmingham this season, scoring five goals.
The Australian-born forward netted the decisive goal that secured Birmingham’s place in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley in April.
However, it now appears he will miss the chance to play in that showpiece event as well, leaving a significant void for Blues manager Chris Davies.

“Hopefully we can see him before the end of this season,” said Davies.
“I would call it a medium term injury, not a quick turnaround but there’s definitely a route back for him to get back before the end of this season and contribute. We’ll miss him.
“I don’t know whether the cup final [April 13] might come too soon.
“I’m not qualified to give that definitive answer but it sounds like the cup final might come too soon. Even after the cup final, there’s probably five league games so can he get back and help us in that period would be the question.”
Meanwhile, Scotland head coach Steve Clarke will be left to assess his options as the national team prepares for Greece.
Heart of Midlothian’s Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams of Torino are likely to be battling it out for a starting spot.
