'Lying, lawbreaking PM's fighting for political life and this time Putin won't save him'

Under heavy fire from his own side as well as Labour’s Keir Starmer and all the other opposition parties, attacking Boris Johnson is like shooting fish in a barrel.

The lying, lawbreaking charlatan’s once again fighting for his political life and this time Vladimir Putin might not save him.

One of the shrewder Conservatives, an MP who is publicly silent and privately scathing, observed the mood in the Tory Party’s flowing against the PM.

“We’re fed up with continually being expected to be loyal and apologise for a man who cares only for himself,” he told me. “We’re fast approaching breaking point.”

The farcical U-turn in Parliament when revolting Conservatives forced No 10 to drop a plot to delay an inquiry into allegations the serial liar told MPs pork pies about Covid boozy bashes exposed a perhaps terminal decline in authority.

More police fines, poor council elections, losing the Wakefield byelection and a damning Sue Gray report could trigger the end for the worst Premier in modern history.

Sacking staff and installing fresh faces in No 10 plus a new Commons enforcer in humiliated Chief Whip Chris Heaton-Harris didn’t fix fundamental problems when Johnson himself is the biggest problem.

Even Brexit, his initial selling point, is a failure and the Rwandan inhuman trade deal reeks of desperation from an unprincipled politician who destroys everybody who gets close.

The cost of living crisis, a Conservative ex-Minister argued, isn’t entirely Johnson’s fault but the inability to convince people a Tory Government’s on their side certainly is.

Labour wants its juicy scalp, Johnson’s head on the platter.

Electorally, a devalued PM limping to the next contest is Labour’s best bet.

Tory MPs beginning to reach the same conclusion increases the likelihood of Johnson’s filleting.
