Luxury Lanarkshire ice cream parlour scoops seven Great Taste awards

Lanarkshire ice cream parlour Equi's has scooped a whopping seven industry awards for their delicious speciality ice cream.

The Hamilton business' luxury ice cream, made from Scottish milk and double cream, wowed judges of the Great Taste Awards - an annual contest open to food and beverage companies that are producing exceptional products .

Equi's was one of six members of regional food and drink group Lanarkshire Larder to win a coveted one, two or three-star award by the Guild of Fine Food out of 10,000 speciality Scottish products.

Other Lanarkshire winners were Biggar Flavour, McLean's Gin, Biggar Gin, Bella Chocolate, Ramsay's of Carluke and Old Mother Hunt Rum.

Each jar, packet and bottle displaying a Great Taste logo is guaranteed to have been through the rigorous and independent judging process - 3 star = exquisite, 2 star = outstanding and 1 star - simply delicious.

Equi's won one star for each of their seven winning flavours of their award-winning ice cream: Double Cream Vanilla, Vanilla 98 Gelato, Mint Choc Chip Gelato, Strawberry Gelato, Bronte Sicilian Pistachio and Olive Oil Gelato, Passion Fruit Sorbet and Bronte Pistachio and Salted Caramel.

The Orchard (Biggar) received one star each for their Brown Sugar Oatmeal Shortbread and Orange Marmalade; McLean's Gin got one star for its Strathaven Hedgerow Gin; Biggar Flavour won an exquisite three stars for its Biggar Strength Gin, there was one star for Bella Chocolate for its Gold Chocolate Bonbon with dry ingredients, one star for Old Mother Hunt's Spiced Pure Single Rum and one star awarded to Ramsay's of Carluke's simply delicious gluten-free Haggis.

Lanarkshire Larder is the regional food and drink group for Lanarkshire and one of 18 regional food groups that exists around Scotland to promote and highlight Lanarkshire food and drink.

It has 61 members which cover food and drink producers, hospitality and retail.

Since its inception in 1993, Great Taste has been the benchmark for speciality food and drink sold in the UK.

This accreditation scheme, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, sees awards given to food and beverage companies that are producing exceptional products. Awarded by the Guild of Fine Food, the annual awards is an ideal opportunity to gain recognition for specialty and artisan products.
