Luxury camping resort near Edinburgh named best in Scotland

A FIVE-STAR campsite close to Edinburgh has been named the best in Scotland.

Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site in East Lothian was named the best at the awards from Pitchup.com – the UK’s leading outdoor accommodation booking platform.

The latest accolade for the site in Levenhall, near Musselburgh, comes just months after it was also named the best campsite in the UK after a vote by Camping magazine.

The top-rated site is just steps from the beaches of the Firth of Forth and just eight miles from Edinburgh.

It is consistently praised for its location and “super friendly staff” with Pitchup.com looking through 171,000 guest verified reviews from last year to discover Scotland’s best sites.

Each was evaluated on aspects including location, value for money, quality of accommodation, activities and cleanliness, with guests awarding 70 per cent of all UK sites listed on the Pitchup.com platform in 2023 an overall score of 8/10 and above.

Scoring a full 10/10 from last year’s visitors, reviewers agree the best thing about the site is its location and the stunning views it offers of the Firth of Forth.

Set in the grounds of a former monastery, it allows for urban adventures in Edinburgh as well as more rural activities along the East Lothian coast.

Drummohr was also awarded a five-star rating by VisitScotland last year and includes self-catering luxury lodges with hot tubs, glamping pods and en-suite bothies.

Many more of Scotland’s sites were rated tops by holidaymakers such as the Isle of Iona Campsite which picked up an impressive 9.9/10 rating.

Barrow Campsite on the banks of the River Nairn was given a 9.8/10 score while the dog-friendly Wee Caravan Park in New Cumnock scored 9.8/10.

Pitchup’s founder Dan Yates said: “From the rugged Highlands to the tranquil Isle of Iona through to the historic Lothian region, our reviewers love the fact that campsites across Scotland are incredibly diverse.

“By showcasing genuine feedback from previous guests alongside average customer ratings across all listings, we aim to make it really easy for newcomers and seasoned campers to get a flavour of what to expect from their stay.”
