Luton Town have perfect template for Cody Drameh to follow in Leeds United loan

Luton Town have had a number of success stories in terms of loan deals in recent seasons, and Cody Drameh will be hoping to become the next youngster to thrive at Kenilworth Road.

Drameh impressed during his previous loan spell at Cardiff City, and was voted both the Bluebirds' Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season, despite only spending four months in the Welsh capital. He has now sealed another spell in the Championship, after joining Luton Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has been fighting for a place in the first team upon his return to Elland Road in the summer, but has found himself behind Luke Ayling and summer signing Rasmus Kristensen in the pecking order.

As a result, Drameh has been reduced to 70 minutes of action in the Premier League, while he has only amassed three appearances across all competitions for the Leeds United this term. The right-back is in desperate need of regular game time, and Luton appears to be the ideal destination for Drameh to rebuild his form and stake a claim for a place in Leeds' first team in the future.

The cases of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Rhys Norrington-Davies serve as a prime example that a loan spell at the Hatters can lead to bigger and better things. Dewsbury-Hall spent the 2020-21 season at Kenilworth Road - scoring three goals and providing six assists in 39 appearances as Luton secured a midtable finish under Nathan Jones.

The midfielder went onto break into Leicester City's first-team squad the following campaign, and is now a regular starter for the Foxes in the Premier League. Despite Leicester's struggles, Dewsbury-Hall has enjoyed a strong individual season, and has registered two goals and two assists in 18 matches in the Premier League.

Norrington-Davies had previously had loan stints with Barrow in the National League, and Rochdale in League One prior to joining Luton on a season-long loan from Sheffield United.

He impressed at both left-back and left-wing back for the Hatters, and received his first call-up for Wales during his short-lived stay at the club. After making 18 appearances in the first half of the season, Norrington-Davies was recalled from his loan spell, and sent to fellow Championship side Stoke City until the end of the campaign.

Although this served as a major blow for Luton, Norrington-Davies has flourished at Sheffield United since his return to Bramall Lane. The Wales international was a constant in Paul Heckingbottom's starting XI at the beginning of this season but cruelly missed out on the his nation's first World Cup in 64 years with a hamstring injury.

Luton will also offer an upgrade from his loan spell at Cardiff. Drameh competed at the bottom end of the Championship with the Bluebirds last term, whereas he looks set to challenge for a place in the Championship play-offs under Rob Edwards this season.

The Hatters sit seventh in the Championship following a run of four wins in five games, and now Luton have sealed a deal for Drameh, then his league debut could ironically come against none other than Cardiff City.
