Luton seal Premier League promotion as they cap stunning rise from non league to top tier riches

Luton Town will be playing English Premier League football next season after a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Coventry City at Wembley, following a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.

The Hatters came out on top in the "richest game in football," banking themselves a revenue increase of at least £170m after reaching the promised land of the English top flight. They will join Championship champions Burnley and and Paul Heckingbottom's Sheffield United in going up. There were worrying scenes at the start as Hatters skipper Tom Lockyer came off the pitch on a stretcher after collapsing on the park.

He is now at hospital for assessment and is responsive, according to a club statement. Jordan Clark opened the scoring for Rob Edwards' side soon after but Gustavo Hamer levelled up to send the sides to extra-time, and then penalty kicks. And a perfect Luton set on top of Fankaty Dabo's miss sends them to the big time.

The victory means Luton are back in the big time for the first time since 1992. They were relegated to non-league in 2009, and now return to top flight football in a memorable tale.
