Luther star urges TV viewers to 'put phone down' during new Trigger Point series

Former Luther star Warren Brown has urged audiences to “put phones down” when watching TV as he is set to join the ITV drama Trigger Point on screen this weekend.

Fresh off the success of the BBC series The Responder, Warren will be hitting screens again as Karl Maguire in ITV ’s police drama alongside Vicky McClure.

But Warren also urged viewers to avoid live tweeting the television series, as it can distract from the drama on screen.

He said: “Put your phone down and just watch the thing and then tweet afterwards, because some of these things you need to pay attention to.

“At the same time, I know that that's what people are doing. People are watching TV with their phone in their hand.”

Warren noted that episodes of the bomb disposal drama on ITV are broken up with advertising, when there may be more time to commentate online.

He concluded: “But times are changing - you just go with it.”

Trigger Point packed a punch in the final moments of the first episode as a mammoth explosion detonated, throwing debris and smoke into the air - and leaving one character’s fate uncertain.

The closing moments of the episode saw Vicky’s character Lana crawling towards injured Joel, played by Adrian Lester - with viewers left uncertain of whether he had survived the impact.

Warren also played Raymond Mullen on BBC’s The Responder alongside Martin Freeman’s starring character Chris Carson.

Freeman plays a Liverpool police officer struggling with mental health issues during a run of six consecutive night shifts.

The BBC dropped the entire series of the gritty police drama on iPlayer earlier this month.

On this, Warren said that while “a lot” of people have binged the series, he doesn’t think everyone will as the series continues to air on BBC One.

He said: “Some people like to watch it each week - giving them the option, you can do whatever you want.

“I feel like people are getting better at not spoiling. Even with some of the big films that are going on at the moment, people seem to be going and actually respecting that it's worth other people having that experience firsthand.”
